The mosque occupies a rectangular footprint that measures 27 by 45m, and is located on a platform situatedat the edge ofa small body of water in the campus of the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. Although the building incorporates a traditional mosque plan, its design abstracts the traditional elements of the mosque through its use of modern architectural vocabularies and exposed concrete surfaces, and dematerializes the mass of the structure through the use of thin walls and of a portico surrounding the prayer hall. The roof covering the square prayer hall is capped by a series of skylights arranged in a grid that filter in natural light.
