Journey from Home to Mosque: A Path Seen Through a Child’s Eyes

Journey from Home to Mosque: A Path Seen Through a Child’s Eyes was held as part of the ICMA-4 program in Istanbul.
The workshop guided children to explore how architecture connects home and mosque. Through storytelling and hands-on design led by Arch. Sura Al-Sabah, participants imagined and created their own Dream Mosque.

At ICMA-4, children were invited into a world where architecture becomes a story — a journey that begins at home and gently leads toward the mosque. Under the guidance of architect Sura Al-Sabah, the workshop transformed into a quiet adventure: children first reflected on the familiar comfort of home, then slowly traced their way toward the spiritual serenity of the mosque.

Through storytelling, conversation, and hands-on design activities, the space filled with imagination. Children sketched pathways, courtyards, minarets, and light — each element revealing how architecture can hold emotion, memory, and belonging.
By the end of the workshop, every child created their own Dream Mosque, a place shaped not by rules, but by feelings: peace, connection, and beauty.

Part of The Little Architect Workshop Series by Arch. Sura Al-Sabah, this experience offered young participants more than a drawing exercise — it offered them a moment to see the mosque not only as a building, but as a journey of heart and space.
