Retal Mosque Design Competition

The Concept

The Retal International Competition for Mosques launched to design mosques as per Retal’s community and specialized Vision as its effort to build unique Mosques in the company projects located in Eastern Province specially Nesaj Town 2 in Dammam.

The Project

The competition shall be organized by Retal Urban Development Company and under the supervision of the Abdullatif Al Fozan Award for Mosque Architecture. The competition aims to attract innovative designs by participants from all over the world to design two Mosques in the center of the Nesaj Town 2 scheme in Dammam, eastern Saudi Arabia. The Nesaj Town scheme is considered one of the most prominent urban development projects for Retal, as its location has been carefully selected. It also aims to provide distinctive designs increasing the aesthetic, sophistication and luxury of the Nesaj Town2 project, to become an element by which to be proud of in the future, in order the essential facilities in the neighborhood to be completed and Mosque is one of its most important components

Competition Goals

1) To enhance the retal’s role in the specialized community contribution.
2) To create competitive spaces encouraging the innovation and creativity among architects from around the world
3) To involve The architectural community by presenting creative ideas compatible with their aspirations and hopes
4) To find a new vision in the Mosques’ design satisfying the aspirations of future generations
5) To create creative designs achieving harmony between man, place and job challenges
6) To contribute in supporting the architectural community with community initiatives have a sustainable impact
7) The shifting towards innovative designs satisfying the quality of life in accordance with the Kingdom’s vision 2030


Design Terms & Requirements

Participation in the competition is available from all over the world for the following categories:
1) Architects: Local and International
2) Universities: Students and faculty can form a design team and participate in the name of the university
3) Architectural Offices & Studios: Local and international
  • To produce innovative and bold designs highlighting the Mosque as a cultural and distinctive landmark for the two sites
  • To feature designs with a special character making them a focal point in the project
  • The design should make the most of natural light and ventilation
  • Comprehensiveness of the technical report for the development stages of the architectural concept
  • Interconnection of Mosque site plan and its facilities with the surrounding to be well studied
  • The design should be feasible
  • Taking into consideration the economic aspects such as energy consumption rates and recycled
  • building materials


Competition Terms & Conditions

  • Competitor (Participant) shall be fully responsible for any content he/she submits to the Competition.
  • The participant has the right to participate in one or two sites design.
  • No reward will be awarded to any candidate whose design has been excluded from competition due to non-compliance with competition terms,
  • Programmed documents or otherwise, or for apparent plagiarism or if the work is deemed insufficiently prepared.
  • The winning project does not necessarily have to be executed.
  • The participant has the right to publish his project, mentioning the competition as a reference, after the winners are announced.
  • The main participant (the designer) shall be the sole owner of the design, and no third party will have right to claim any reward or privilege.
  • Abdullatif Al Fozan Award for Mosque Architecture and Retal Company have the full right to publish projects on any platform.

The mosques are to be designed at two different sites (local) Mosque which will have capacity of 540 prayers to hold regular daily prayers.

Site One: Dammam, Nesaj Town2

  • Land Area: 35.3.0.sqm.
  • No. of male prayers: 450.pers
  • No. of female prayers: 90.pers..
  • No. of toilets: 9..for..male.
  • No. of toilets: 2.for.female.
  • Imam apartment: 3 bedrooms, living area, dining area,
  • kitchen and 4 bathrooms: 1.80…200sqm.
  • Muathen apartment: 3 bedrooms, living area, dining area, kitchen and 4 bathrooms: 1.80….200 sqm.


Site two: Dammam, Nesaj Town2
Area Dimentions:
  • 88M X 61M X 88M X 61M
Capacity Requirements:
  • Land Area: 53.7.2.sqm.
  • No. of male prayers: 450.pers
  • No. of female prayers: 90.pers..
  • No. of toilets: 9..for..male.
  • No. of toilets: 2.for.female.
  • Imam apartment: 3 bedrooms, living area, dining area,
  • kitchen and 4 bathrooms: 1.80…200sqm.

Awards

  • First project, First prize: 75.000 RIYAL SAUDI / 20,000 USD
  • Second project, First prize: 75.000 RIYAL SAUDI / 20,000 USD
  • awarded TO THE FIRST PRIZE WINNING DESIGN FOR EACH PROJECT
